RippleX Developers expanded the XRPL AI Starter Kit with support for the Machine Payments Protocol, allowing developers to use the XRP Ledger as a settlement rail for payments between AI agents and online services.
Tempo and Stripe co-authored MPP as an open standard for machine payments. Under the model, an agent requests a resource from an API or online service. The service can return an HTTP 402 payment request containing the required payment terms, and the agent can authorize payment before receiving the resource.
The new xrpl-mpp-sdk extends MPP with XRP Ledger-specific payment methods. Single onchain payments can use XRP, issued tokens and Multi-Purpose Tokens.
MPP support also extends to XRPL Payment Channels for repeated XRP payments. Instead of placing every small payment directly onchain, an agent can open a Payment Channel and send signed claims to the service provider during a session.
Version 1.1 also adds Open Wallet Standard support, giving AI agents a common interface for interacting with wallets across multiple blockchain networks.
RippleX also introduced xrpl-up, a command-line tool for running a local XRP Ledger sandbox. Developers can test payment flows without depending entirely on public Testnet or Devnet environments.
RippleX said the earlier x402 integration generated approximately 5.6 million XRP Ledger transactions. The company has not disclosed how many represented production payments or the value transferred, so the figure should not be interpreted as confirmed commercial adoption.
